Junior Wordsmiths

The "Junior Wordsmiths" program gives students a FUN perspective on the various elements of written communication. This energetic and creative approach reinforces the concepts they are learning in their current writing classes with enthusiastic and imaginative discussion, and lots of interactive games.

Younger students focus on observation - seeing all the "nouns" that surround them, and learning how each could be a "subject" for their writing. Students also begin to explore the use of descriptive words and phrases.

The Goal is simple, GET KIDS EXCITED ABOUT WRITING
Older students expand their study of nouns and adjectives before moving on to verbs and adverbs. Interactive games help students utilize new concepts in a fun way that encourages participation from even the most shy of children.

Beyond the basic parts of speech, older students explore additional elements such as synonyms and antonyms, similes and metaphors, rhymes, alliteration, homonyms and homophones, puns, and idioms.

"Junior Wordsmiths" stresses fun and creativity. Students are, however, given examples of practical uses for creative, colorful, and compelling writing such as product descriptions, job applications, headlines, etc.

Although developed for classroom environments, individual sessions are available for students who would benefit from one-on-one instruction.
